What is the Canal Ring in Amsterdam and do cruises go there?
Answer: The Canal Ring (Grachtengordel), also known as the Canal Belt or Canal District, is a historic neighborhood in the heart of Amsterdam that was built in the 17th century around 4 main canals - Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, and Singel. In 2010, the area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The way the canals are laid out resembles the shape of a ring, which is the origin of its Dutch name Grachtengordel (the “belt of canals”).
The Canal Ring includes some of Amsterdam’s most famous attractions, such as the Anne Frank House, Museum Van Loon, the Museum of Bags, Willet-Holthuysen House, the Biblical Museum, the Flower Market, and more.
All the popular cruises operated by companies such as Lovers, Stromma, Flagship and Blue Boat pass through this area, allowing you to see up close the landmarks and monuments located there.
